Katie (Kathy)'s Story
I live in Oregon where the green of the landscape rivals those of Ireland.
I have two children, a married daughter (33) and a son (31). My daughter married in December and now lives in England with her hubby. My son is still in Bakersfield. He currently works in construction.ÃÂÃÂ
I moved to Oregon about 10 1/2 years ago with the plan of marrying my love, settling in and getting set to retire. The first two happened, the last didn't yet. The marrying part ended about two years ago which changed the route I was on.
I've worked in the community relations and communications in our local school district for the past 10 years. Before moving north I was at Bakersfield City Schools for 13 years. Unfortunately the retirement plans didn't merge so I'm still working but the good part is, I love my job. We handle everything from community events, to crisis in schools, to having to close schools because of snow. Something new everyday.
My vacation time has taken me to some pretty amazing places. I've gone on a couple cruises. One to Alaska - it was so beautiful. Another was to the various island...Expand for more
s in the south Caribbean. It was absolutely wonderful except the poverty is so awful, it made me want to cry. I am so blessed to live in a house with a roof over my head. I also got to go to Ireland. I will go back again. I loved it there.
In my spare time I work with a woman who trains service dogs. They are beautiful golden retrievers. The dogs are so smart and gentle, I wish I could take them all home with me. I don't work with training but I do go help her out by bathing them and walking them when needed. I did adopt one of her family pets, Oreo, a black lab/Australian Shepard mix. She is very smart and well mannered. We go for walks most every evening. It's a bit cold out after work (31 yesterday) but it sure clears the cobwebs and gives the dog some outside time too.
BTW - I notice that several stop by this web site but don't leave a message or email. I'm guilty too but please do leave a note, I'd love to hear from you.
Today is Christmas Eve. I have acquired several friends without family in the area so will have a full house tomorrow for Christmas dinner.
Merry Christmas all!
